During a sitting on July 9, 2024, at the Magistrates Court in Ikorodu, Lagos State, both parties were directed to seek alternative dispute resolution, which led to closed-door negotiations.
Omowunmi, wife of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has accused her late husband’s father, Joseph Aloba, of deliberately avoiding a DNA test for her son, Liam to ascertain his paternity with Mohbad.
During a sitting on July 9, 2024, at the Magistrates Court in Ikorodu, Lagos State, both parties were directed to seek alternative dispute resolution, which led to closed-door negotiations.
However, no agreement was reached.
Mohbad’s father had initiated the legal proceedings, seeking a DNA test for his grandson.
In an October 2024 statement, Monisola Odumosu, a representative from the family’s legal team, stated that Wunmi had agreed to undergo the DNA test.
Odumosu further mentioned that both parties had agreed on the terms of settlement, which included the test.
Following this, the court ordered that the DNA test be conducted at a mutually agreed-upon laboratory or medical center within Nigeria.
Additionally, the court appointed officers to supervise the test to ensure its accuracy and integrity.
However, speaking with SaharaReporters on Tuesday, Wunmi said that in October, her father-in-law through his lawyer told the judge that the Pathologist who did her late husband’s second autopsy would be the one to do her son’s DNA, which her lawyer opposed, and the judge granted her lawyer’s argument and they agreed to use a different hospital.
But when they left the court, her father-in-law and his lawyers made a U-turn and insisted on using the pathologist for the DNA test, which her lawyer again opposed and since then, her father-in-law had refused to say or do anything about the DNA test.
She said yet, he has continued to defame her and her son in the media.
Lamenting that people who are supporting her father-in-law still bully her and her son till date, Wunmi said, “He has been running. Since October last year when the judge gave the judgment, he has not really said anything meaningful.
“Before then, we reached out to him that we are ready for the DNA. He thought that I was not going to do it because he has been using the media to blackmail me.
“My lawyer reached out to him that I want to do the DNA. He was surprised. He wrote an application that when the DNA result comes out, I will not tell the public. Secondly, I will not sue him. Thirdly, he wants to be in Liam’s life as his grandfather and his guardian.
“At first, I said I was not going to accept the conditions but my lawyer said I should accept one – where he said he wants to be in Liam’s life because he will still go online to act like a victim without considering all the bad things he has done to Liam.”
According to her, “In October (2024), the judge called me through my lawyer and asked if I am ready for the DNA test and I said yes. The judge approved the letter but since last year, he has not been saying anything.
“While we were in court, his solicitor told the judge that the Pathologist who did my late husband’s second autopsy will be the one to do my child’s DNA, which my lawyer opposed, and asked why a pathologist will do a DNA test because it is two different professions.
“The judge also granted my lawyer’s argument and told my father-in-law that it cannot work that way. They accepted that they were not going to use the pathologist for the DNA test and agreed that they would look for another hospital.
“After we left the court and we’re supposed to carry out the test, my father-in-law and his lawyers came up with the same plan again, that they want to use the pathologist, which my lawyer said no.
“Since then, they have not been responding and he still goes online to defame me and Liam. Since then he has not said anything about it and people still bully me and Liam everyday in the media.”
