The Director General of the National Orientation Agency, Lanre Isaa-Onilu, has delivered a cheque of N30 million naira to the family of late Nigerian flag designer, Pa Taiwo Akinkumi more than a year after his demise.

The NOA DG made this known during a working visit to the Oyo state directorate of the agency in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.

The DG who was in Oyo state to hold a sensitisation meeting with the Tankers Drivers Association at Tanker Park, Akinyele/ Moniya,  later paid a visit to Pa Akinkunmi’s residence, where he delivered the Federal Government’s gift of N30 million to the late designer of the National flag, Pa Taiwo Akinkunmi,s family among other functions.

Isaa-Onilu also had a Media Chat with journalists over the activities of the agency in the state after which he held a meeting with NOA Oyo state staff members.

At the Tanker drivers’ meeting, The Director General sensitized them against the dangers associated with reckless driving,  sleeping while driving, and other hazards that can precipitate tanker explosion which may ultimately lead to loss of lives and properties.  He added that ” scooping petrol is akin to stealing, its a death wish,    fraught with dangers.

At Pa Akinkunmi’s family house,  the DG who described the late designer of the Nigerian flag as a legend noted that for the country to stick to the design to date is indicative of the respect the entire nation accords to it. He therefore presented a symbolic cheque of  30 million naira to the family.  The gesture is a fulfilment of the promise made by the federal government to the family during his burial. The  DG maintained that the support would not be a one-off thing, and the visitation would continue from time to time.

Issa-Onilu harped on the ongoing sensitization on fuel scooping and the coming jingles on the subject matter in about 70 local languages on radio stations across the country. The DG  reiterated the importance of the national value charter, national identity project, and sensitization on fuel scooping, and he called on the press to continue spreading these and other NOA sensitization messages like wildfire.
