This comes 24 hours after the governor put a N100 million bounty on the heads of the killers of Bako Angbashim, a superintendent of police, in the state.

The Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara has vowed to probe all traditional rulers supporting cult-related activities in the state.

The governor said this in a tweet on Monday, reemphasizing the commitment of his government to end cultism in the state.

He said, “Any traditional ruler, even if he’s from my place, who’s supporting cultism, I assure you that as I have started with Ahoada, I will come after you.”

This comes 24 hours after the governor put a N100 million bounty on the heads of the killers of Bako Angbashim, a superintendent of police, in the state.

Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Angbashim was slain on Friday while returning from an operation in Ahoada, in the Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers when his team came under an attack.

According to Fubara, intelligence from security forces has connected the death of the senior police officer to one Gift David Okpara Okpolowu and his criminal gang.

In Ahoada East LGA of the state, the governor claimed Okpara and his gang have set up camps there and are to blame for the rise in violent crimes, including kidnapping and terrorism.

He said, “As a responsible government, we cannot fold our arms and allow criminals and crimes to rear their ugly heads and thrive in any part of our state.

“First, the prime suspects, Mr. Gift David Okpara Okpolowu (a.k.a. 2-Baba) and all members of his criminal gang are hereby declared wanted.

“Secondly, a bounty of one hundred million (N100,000,000.00) naira is hereby placed on his head for anyone who gives useful information that would lead to his arrest and prosecution.”

The Acting Inspector-General Of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, in a statement issued by Muyiwa Adejobi, the force spokesperson, had also condemned the murder of Angbashim, while demanding the immediate arrest and prosecution of the culprits.

Egbetokun said the killing of the DPO is not only an affront to the nation but a reflection of a lack of patriotism and gross illegality.
