SHOCKING : COURT REMANDS FEMALE SUSPECT FOR BABY THEFT
A female suspect, Mrs. Adebayo Bunmi, 27, has been arraigned and remanded in prison custody over an alleged theft of 18-day-old baby, by
an Osun Magistrate Court sitting in Ile-Ife.
The Presiding Magistrate, Muhibah Olatunji, had refused the bail of the accused person, but asked the Defence Counsel, Mr. Alaba Awoseemo, to come with written application for the consideration of her bail.
Olatunji thereafter ordered that the suspect be remanded in Ilesa prison custody, pending the ruling on the bail application, saying that it will serve as deterrent to others.
The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Ona Glory, had told the court that the accused committed the offence on July 1, 2018 around 05:30pm at Itasin Area, Modakeke in Ife Northeast LG area of Osun.
Glory said that the accused stole an 18-old-day boy, Adebode David, son of Mr and Mrs Adebode Peter with intent to deprive them permanently.
He added that the offence contravened section 371 (1) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2003.
The accused however, pleaded not guilty to one-count charge of baby stolen.
The Defence Counsel, Mr Alaba Awoseemo, applied for the bail of the accused in most liberal term, pledged that his client would not jump bail, but would provide substantial sureties.
