The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced that electricity consumers in Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ife township, Ilesa township and other areas in Osun State will be thrown into a seven-hour blackout on Friday.

Other areas to be affected by the blackout include Ikire/Wasinmi, Ife Iron & Steel, Sekona, Efon alaaye, IBL, Ibokun/Idominasi, Ipetu-Ijesha and ljebu-ljesha.

The TCN’s spokesperson, Ndidi Mbah, who made this known in a statement on Thursday night said that the seven-hour blackout was due to maintenance activities to replace a faulty circuit breaker protecting Osogbo/llesha/Ife-Ondo 132kV transmission line.

Mbah said, “The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), hereby states that its Maintenance Crew will replace a faulty Circuit Breaker protecting Osogbo/llesha/Ife-Ondo 132kV transmission line with a new one on Friday, 10th May 2024, between 10am and 5pm.

“This will affect bulk power supply to lle-lfe, llesha and Ondo Transmission Substations, which receives power through the Osogbo/llesha/lfe – Ondo 132kV transmission line.

“Consequently, Ibadan and Benin DisCos will not be able to offtake power for seven (7) hours through the Ife township, Ikire/Wasinmi, OAU, Ife Iron & Steel, Sekona, Efon alaaye, IBL, Ilesha township, Ibokun/Idominasi, Ipetu-Ijesha and ljebu-ljesha feeders to its customers in the listed areas.

“Kindly note that power supply will be restored after the exercise is completed.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause electricity consumers in the affected areas.”
