President Bola Tinubu has said that free train trips on the Abuja Rail Mass Transit, commonly known as Metro Rail, will be extended for another six months.

This will take the free rides on the train to the end of the year.

The President said this while giving a speech at the opening of the rail in Abuja on Wednesday. The day coincides with the Presidentā€™s first anniversary in office.

Last week, the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, announced that the train would operate free services for two months from the date of its inauguration.

But the President has extended that till the end of the year.

ā€œI appeal to you to make it till the end of the year,ā€ the President told Wike.

SaharaReporters earlier reported how Nigerians on social media had been using #TinubuOneYearOfFailures on X to lament the socioeconomic hardship imposed on them by President Tinubuā€™s policies in his first 12 months in office.

A report issued by Amnesty International on Wednesday also stated that at least 4,000 Nigerians were killed unjustly during the first year of Tinubuā€™s tenure.

The report stated further that the economic policies implemented by Tinubu had pushed millions of the citizens to abject poverty and about 1,336 people were also killed in Plateau State within three months.

Many Nigerians have also expressed their displeasure with the poor performance of the government, describing its inauguration as a death of democracy in the country.
