Former United States President Donald Trump has launched a series of attacks on the country’s vice president, Kamala Harris, describing her as a left-wing “extremist” and the “ultraliberal driving force” behind Joe Biden’s policies.
At his first campaign event since Biden, 81, exited the race and endorsed Harris, Trump warned that Harris would be the most left-wing president if elected in November, Al Jazeera reports.
“If you want socialist healthcare, nation-wrecking inflation, the death of American energy, and a lying, radical left-liberal, San Francisco extremist as your commander-in-chief, then Kamala Harris is your candidate,” Trump said at a rally in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Trump, repeatedly mispronouncing Harris’s name, claimed she was ranked the most liberal member of the US Senate and made Bernie Sanders seem moderate.
He criticised her stance on abortion and immigration, alleging she supported the “execution” of babies and was responsible for the “deadly destruction” of the US border.
Harris, a former prosecutor and California attorney general, has accused Trump of supporting a nationwide abortion ban and wanting to regress on American freedoms and rights.
“She is a radical-left lunatic who will destroy our country if she ever gets the chance to get into office. We are not going to let that happen,” Trump said.
Trump, 78, also accused Harris of deceiving the public about Biden’s mental fitness, claiming she lied to cover up Biden’s “mental unfitness.”
Meanwhile, Harris, 59, has energised her campaign as the Democratic nominee, gaining significant support and improving poll numbers. However, she still trails Trump in most polls and faces questions about her broad appeal.
