ATIKU, EZEKWESILI SIGN PEACE ACCORD

The presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP and Dr Oby Ezekwesili of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria, on Wednesday appeared before the National Peace Committee convened by Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar and the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Rev. Fr. Mathew Hassan Kukah, where they signed the peace accord for the 2019 general elections.

The PUNCH had reported that Atiku failed to turn up at the International Conference Centre on Tuesday where Buhari and other presidential candidates honoured the invitation by the National Peace Committee.

Speaking shortly after signing the peace deal, Atiku commended President Muhammadu Buhari for accepting to sign the accord, but also advised him to sign the Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2018.

“I commend the President for accepting to sign the peace agreement. But let me also advise him to sign the Electoral Act Amendment Bill,” Atiku said.

Ezekwesili told The PUNCH that she was not allowed to speak at the venue after signing the peace agreement, describing it as discriminatory.
