Shedrack is alleged to have raped and robbed several female students at Tai Solarin University of Education in Ijagun.

The Ogun State Police Command has announced the arrest of Olayemi Shedrack, a 33-year-old man who has been on their wanted list.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, on Monday, the suspect was apprehended in Ijagun following information from the public. 

Shedrack had attempted to blend in with the crowd to evade detection.

The arrest marks a significant breakthrough in the police’s efforts to address the series of rape and robbery cases targeting university students. 

The Ogun State Police Command commends the public for their cooperation and vigilance, which led to the suspect’s capture.

The case is currently under investigation, and the police assure that justice will be served. The arrest aims to reassure the university community and the public of the police’s commitment to maintaining law and order.

The statement partly reads: “Acting on a tip-off, Olayemi Olawale Shedrack, aged 33, was spotted in Ijagun attempting to blend in with the crowd, but his true identity was verified through intelligence sources. The police were promptly informed and he was promptly arrested.

“Olayemi Olawale Shedrack has been on police trail for his involvement in armed robbery and sexual assault, he was identified as the main suspect in a reported incident of armed robbery and rape that took place on July 21, 2024.

“During this crime, he and his accomplices unlawfully entered the female Royal villa accommodation area at Tai University of Education in Ijagun. They stole valuable educational items such as laptops, iPhones, sports watches, and cash from female students, and also committed sexual assault before fleeing the scene.”

According to her, a preliminary investigation has been launched and the suspect has been taken to Igbeba police station, Ijebu-Ode for interrogation.

“The public can be assured that the suspect will soon be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for thorough investigation and prosecution.

“The Commissioner of Police, Alamutu Abiodun is aware of the arrest and has ordered the apprehension of Shedrack’s accomplices, he also appeals to the residents of Ijagun to provide credible information to help the police arrest other fleeing criminals,” she concluded.
