TENSION AS NYAME’S KINSMEN PROTEST JAIL SENTENCE

The Mumuye, tribesmen of a former Governor of Taraba State, Jolly Nyame, took to the streets in Jalingo yesterday to protest the 14-year jail term slammed on him by a high court.
The protesters, mostly youths, condemned the Federal High Court judgement which sent the three-time governor to prison over misappropriation of public funds.
The protesters who carried placards with different inscriptions were accompanied by the police in four white Hilux vans in a procession that passed through Hamaruwa and Barde ways and ended at Nyame’s residence.
Nyame was the first civilian Governor of Taraba State between 1990 and 1992. He also served another two terms between 1999 and 2007 before he handed over to the late Danbaba Suntai, and a few months later, their relationship got sour, a development that prompted Suntai to set up a commission of inquiry to investigate Nyame’s administration. The commission indicted Nyame in its report
