The autopsy report for the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad, suggests a drug reaction as the potential cause of death.
The report, obtained from the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, by TheCable Lifestyle reveals that various bodily samples were collected for toxicology testing, and while an injury on his right forearm was noted, no direct cause of death could be determined due to decomposition.
In the medical report, samples of the gastric content, blood, bone marrow, liver, kidney, and lung of the late singer were retrieved for a toxicology test.
The anatomical and pathological examinations disclosed that the late singer sustained an injury to his right forearm, and his body was exhumed with moderate to severe decomposition.
The autopsy also revealed that no significant gross finding could be linked to the singer’s death.
The toxicology revealed the positive finding of Diphenhydramine, an anti-histamine; however, this concentration was not in a fatal or lethal range.
Antihistamines are medicines used to treat symptoms of allergies. They are commonly used to treat a variety of other conditions such as stomach problems, colds, and anxiety, among others.
The cause of his death could not be ascertained but it was linked to a drug reaction given any significant post-mortem and toxicology findings.
The medical report reads: “Aloba Promise Oladimeji Ilerioluwa, a 26-year-old male reportedly died after being injected by one supposed female Nurse on 12/9/2023.
“The deceased allegedly sustained an injury on the back of the right forearm following which the Nurse was invited to treat him. Shortly after the injection, it was alleged that the deceased went into convulsive episode and was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced lifeless same day.
“It is noteworthy that the body neither had an autopsy not embalmed prior to interment on the second day. Following the Order for Exhumation, the body was exhumed on 21/09/2023 (8 days after the burial).
“Autopsy revealed moderate to marked decomposition of organs. Apart from the superficial injury on the right forearm, no significant gross finding could be attributed to death.
“Against this background, samples were taken for toxicology. This is to determine if there was any anaphylactic reaction, substances of abuse, over dosage or common household poisoning.
“Toxicology revealed positive finding of Diphenhydramine, an anti-histamine; however, this concentration was not in a fatal or lethal range. The other analytics were unremarkable.
“In determining fatal anaphylactic shock, blood sample needs to be taken as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, this was prevented or made impossible by the burial of the deceased on the second day.
“Unfortunately, this was prevented or made impossible by the burial of the deceased on the second day. In the light of the foregoing, cause of death could not be ascertained.
“However, the possibility of a fatal anaphylactic shock (drug reaction) could be considered in view of the absence of any significant post mortem and toxicology findings.”
It was reported last week that the management of the National Medical Services Laboratories in Pennsylvania, United States of America had denied conducting any toxicology test on the deceased.
This denial was in response to the earlier claim of the Lagos State Government which asserted that Mohbad’s body was flown to the medical facility in the US to determine the cause of his death and enquiries made by The PUNCH.
NMS Labs, in response to inquiries made by the newspaper, said it did not have a case for Mohbad.
The Client Services Associate, Forensics Division, NMS Labs, Esther Dede said that Mohbad’s toxicology test was not conducted at any of their laboratories, refuting the claims made by the Lagos State Government.
Meanwhile, in December 2023, SaharaReporters reported how the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu said that a toxicology test to determine the cause of death of the music star was taken abroad because there was no facility to do it in Nigeria.
The governor said this at a town hall meeting held in Lagos while answering a question asked by a journalist regarding the prolonged delay in concluding the investigation into the death of Mohbad.
According to Sanwo-Olu, the state lost the only forensic facility to a mob attack during the #EndSARS protest in 2020.
