A classmate of the deceased who pleaded anonymity told SaharaReporters that Sulaiman died of negligence by staff at the police training.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered an investigation into the death of a 100-level cadet, Sulaiman Jika, who died at the Nigeria Police Academy (POLAC), Wudil, Kano State last Friday.

SaharaReporters had exclusively on Saturday reported that the Nigerian Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, was embroiled in turmoil over the death of Sulaiman, a year-one student of Department of Sociology who died at the institution’s medical centre.

A classmate of the deceased who pleaded anonymity told SaharaReporters that Sulaiman died of negligence by staff at the police training, stressing that the deceased could have survived the “malaria sickness” if the health care personnel acted promptly.

The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Tuesday said that the IGP has set up a seven-man panel of inquiry which the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Abuja, DIG Abiodun Alabi, would lead.

Adejobi stated that the panel had a mandate to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the cadet’s death with a deadline of four days for the panel to come up with a comprehensive report detailing its findings and recommendations.
