The Nigeria Police Force has said that its operatives attached to Ogun State Command in collaboration with the vigilante group have arrested seven suspected cultists and recovered firearms in the Sagamu area of the state.
The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who made this known in a statement on Tuesday said that the suspected cultists were arrested on Sunday in connection with a clash between two rival cult groups – Aiye and Eiye confraternities, which resulted in the killing of four persons at Ewu Iya in Sakura on Sunday.
Adejobi, who identified the arrested cultists to include Asaiye Omolaja, Azeez Nofiu, Mathew Adewale, and Bolaji Ogunkemaya, said that Ogunkemaya was found with the four corpses of the deceased persons in the same room where the killings occurred.
The Force spokesperson said, “On September 17, 2023, the Ogun State Police Command in Sagamu conducted a successful raid in collaboration with the VGN (Vigilante Group of Nigeria).
“This operation was carried out in response to a report of a clash between two rival cult groups, namely Aiye and Eiye, resulting in the death of four individuals at Ewu Iya Sunday in SAKURA.
“Based on the report, the area commander swiftly mobilised operatives to the scene in order to de-escalate the clash and apprehend the cultists involved.
“As a result, seven suspected cultists were arrested, and further investigations led to the recovery of some arms and ammunition and assorted criminal charms.
“Those apprehended are Asaiye Omolaja, Azeez Nofiu, Mathew Adewale, and Bolaji Ogunkemaya.
“It is pertinent to note that Bolaji Ogunkemaya was found with the four corpses of the deceased persons in the same room where the killings occurred.”
