Previously, on May 27, the court had granted an interim injunction restraining the 1st to 5th respondents from presenting themselves as Emirs, citing the need for peace in Kano.
The Kano State High Court sitting in Kano, the state capital, has adjourned the hearing of the application on the ongoing Kano Emirate tussle to July 4.
The application, filed by the Kano State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, and the House of Assembly itself through their counsel, Ibrahim Isah-Wangida, was a motion ex parte submitted on May 27.
They sought an order to restrain the 15th Emir, Aminu Ado-Bayero, and the four dethroned Emirs of Bichi, Rano, Gaya, and Karaye from assuming the role of traditional rulers.
Respondents named in the suit include Alhaji Aminu Ado-Bayero, Alhaji Nasiru Ado-Bayero (Bichi Emir), Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar II (Emir of Karaye), Alhaji Kabiru Muhammad-Inuwa (Emir of Rano), and Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim-Gaya (Emir of Gaya).
Also listed are the Inspector-General of Police, Director of the State Security Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the Nigerian Army.
During the hearing of pending applications, Mr. Eyitayo Fatogun (SAN), counsel to the applicants, informed the court that they received five processes from the first respondent on July 1 at approximately 6:30 p.m.
He requested a 30-minute recess to enable them to serve their responses.
Opposing the recess, Mr. Abdul Muhammed (SAN), representing Ado-Bayero, requested an adjournment to adequately respond and file their applications.
Justice Amina Adamu-Aliyu, subsequently adjourned the matter to July 4 for the hearing of all pending applications and originating motions.
Previously, on May 27, the court had granted an interim injunction restraining the 1st to 5th respondents from presenting themselves as Emirs, citing the need for peace in Kano.
It is noteworthy that on May 23, the Kano State House of Assembly dissolved all four newly created Emirate councils, and Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf reinstated Lamido Sanusi as the Emir of Kano.
