A source privy to the incident informed TheEagleonline that El-Rufai’s visit to the opposition party’s secretariat was unexpected and thus tagged as a “surprise visit”.

The immediate past governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai was at the national secretariat of the Social Democratic Party in Abuja on Wednesday.

A source privy to the incident informed TheEagleonline that El-Rufai’s visit to the opposition party’s secretariat was unexpected and thus tagged as a “surprise visit”.

It was learned that the move was made towards strengthening his political affiliations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The source hinted further that the former Governor, who is a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was there on a consultation visit to the National Chairman of the SDP, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam.

Gabam hailed El-Rufai as a friend with a strong political background, noting that Nigeria needed transformational leaders like him.

El-Rufai has recently paid consultation visits to some prominent leaders from various political groups.

SaharaReporters had reported how the Nigerian Senate failed to confirm the nomination of El-Rufai as a minister of the country last August.

After the seven-day of screening of the 49 ministerial nominees sent to it for screening by President Bola Tinubu, the Senate did not also confirm the appointment of the former Deputy Governor of Taraba State and a ministerial nominee from the state, Senator Abubakar Danladi.

Also not confirmed by the Upper Chamber was one of the ministerial nominees from Delta State, Stella Okotete.

According to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, the Senate did not clear the three because of security reports that must be cleared.
