Condé Nast has disclosed that Chioma Nnadi is set to assume the role of head at British Vogue, succeeding Edward Enninful, with her tenure commencing on October 9th.
Nnadi will be overseeing editorial content at the magazine, with Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of US Vogue and chief content officer for Condé Nast’s worldwide editions, as her superior.
Wintour remarked on Nnadi, acknowledging her remarkable brilliance as a writer and editor and highlighting her valuable qualities as a supportive colleague.
She stated, “She is focused on the future and understands that Vogue needs to reach new audiences and do so in new ways. She respects our iconic past but is not tied to old traditions.
“Chioma is an exceptional editor for this role and I couldn’t be happier to see her lead us forward.”
The upcoming head of British Vogue took to Instagram to convey her gratitude to Wintour, Enninful, and Roger Lynch (CEO of Condé Nast) for the chance they provided her with.
She said, “I’m so thrilled to announce that I’m the new head of editorial content for British vogue.”
Nnadi broke new grounds as the inaugural black female editor of British Vogue, poised to join the ranks of global editorial leaders who play pivotal roles in overseeing the magazine publisher.
She presently holds the position of editor at vogue.com and serves as one of the co-hosts for “The Run-Through,” the magazine’s weekly podcast.
Her professional journey began at the Evening Standard Magazine in the UK, where she worked on the features desk. She later relocated to New York to contribute to Trace, a prominent style magazine.
Her expertise in the fashion realm flourished as she assumed the role of style director at Fader magazine, eventually culminating in her entry into the world of Vogue in 2010.
In June, Enninful announced his intention to resign from the organization following the March 2024 issue, but he would continue in the role of an editorial adviser for the magazine group.
He said in a statement, “I am so thrilled that Chioma is joining British Vogue.
“She is a brilliant and unique talent with real vision, who will take the publication to ever greater heights.”
According to the Financial Times, British Vogue, under Enninful’s leadership, transformed into a more inclusive and varied publication and showcasing notable figures like Meghan Markle.
