NASS ASSURES THOROUGHNESS IN PETROLEUM INDUSTRY BILL

The National Assembly has assured that it will be thorough in the consideration of the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) which is before the Nigerian parliament.

The Chairman of the National Assembly and Senate President, Senator Ahmad Lawan made the disclosure when the leadership of the two Chambers played host to the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Mr Timipre Silva and the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mr Mele Kyari in Abuja. Senator Lawan noted that the meeting was to discuss the essence and focus of the PIB sent to the National Assembly by President Muhammad Buhari and would be unveil at the plenary of both Chambers on Tuesday.

The President of the Senate said the bill which was presented as an executive bill in 2007 and 2011 was not passed by the legislature. He said is the desire of the National Assembly to understand the contents of the bill in the first instance before its processing and eventual passage. Addressing the Red and Green Chambers, the Minister of petroleum resources, Mr. Timipre Silva noted that the Central aim of the bill is to make Nigeria an attractive investment destination.
