National Economic Council Issues Four Defaulting States Deadline To Submit Reports On State Police

Any decision taken thereafter will be binding on those states, NEC warned.

The National Economic Council (NEC) has mandated that four states yet to submit their reports on the establishment of state police must do so by Monday, September 9.

Any decision taken thereafter will be binding on those states, NEC warned.

This directive was issued during a NEC meeting chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday.

According to Bayo Lawal, the acting governor of Oyo State, the reports are crucial due to ongoing security challenges in across the country.

Lawal stated, “An update on the establishment of state police was considered and this was as a result of the security challenges that we have across the nation… so that we would have robust security in our nation.”

He further explained that NEC had initially requested state submissions last year to address the security concerns. However, four states failed to meet the recent submission deadline.

Lawal added, “Incidentally, four states couldn’t submit, and for that purpose, NEC decided that those states must make their submissions on or before Monday next week, otherwise, whatever decision next date on the establishment of state police will be binding on those states.”

In addition to the police matter, the Federal Government disbursed N3 billion to assist states affected by severe flooding.
