Nigeria Police Rescue 5-Year-Old Boy Chained, Starved ‘For Three Days’ By Father In Bauchi

It was gathered that the suspect claimed he confined his son to prevent him from stealing valuables from their neighbour.

A five-year-old boy, who was chained, locked in a room, and starved for three days by his father, has been rescued by the Bauchi State Police Command in the Gwallagan Mayaka area of the state.

This is contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the spokesperson for the command, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, who said the minor, Hussaini Abubakar, was rescued by a team of detectives led by CSP Mubarak Baba following a tip-off by a neighbour and his wife.

Wakil said the minor revealed that he had been subjected to inhuman treatment by his father, Abubakar Nuhu, 50, for several days.

The child also mentioned enduring three days without food.

The statement read, “On 3rd July 2024 at about 1705hrs information was received from the ward head of Gwallagan Mayaka area of Bauchi that he received information from a good Samaritan a resident of his ward revealed that his wife Amina (not real name) who informed him that she saw a 5yrs old boy of their neighbours tied with a chain inside a room situated at the same address (Gwallagan Mayaka) and she immediately check-up the boy to confirm and found the boy lying tied with the chain unconscious.

“On receipt of the information, a team of detectives led by CSP. Mubarak S. Baba DPO D’ Division (Dutsen Tanshi) moved to the scene and rescued the boy.

“During interview, the victim Identified himself as Hussaini Abubakar ‘m’ 5 years old, he revealed that he was treated inhumanely by his biological father Abubakar Nuhu ‘m’ 50yrs AKA Wanzam of Gwallagan Mayaka, he further stated that he was incarcerated with the exception of all humane treatment by the father for many days which he can not specify and also spend three days without eating.

“Consequently, the Commissioner of Police Bauchi State Command CP Auwal Musa Muhammad psc immediately directed the DPO to apprehend the offender for investigation and prosecution for the established offence.

“During interrogation, the suspect Abubakar Nuhu popularly known as Wanzam was arrested for the offence of Child Abuse, according to the defendant he claimed to have confined the minor “in order to restrict him from stealing their neighbour’s valuables” and he was advised to do so by a friend.

“Furthermore, the CP directed the DPO to transfer the case to SCID and also directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department to discreetly investigate the crux of the matter and other motives surrounding the dastardly act.

“While appreciating the public for their cooperation and being vigilant to sanitize and/or pitch out the bad eggs among the productive society is highly acknowledged and encourages the public to continue supporting the Police and any other law enforcement agent in the State.”

“CP MM Auwal psc warned the General Public to desist from such acts and report any suspicious person or group attempting to commit or on the commission of such an act to the nearest Police Station or call our emergency toll numbers; 08151849417, 09053872273,” he added.
