The customs official, whose name has not been disclosed, died on Tuesday after collapsing during questioning in an ongoing investigation into revenue-generating agencies and parastatals.
Tragedy struck at the National Assembly in Abuja on Tuesday, as a senior official of the Nigeria Customs Services collapsed and passed away during a session with the Public Account Committee of the House of Representatives.
The customs official, whose name has not been disclosed, died on Tuesday after collapsing during questioning in an ongoing investigation into revenue-generating agencies and parastatals.
Despite receiving immediate medical attention at the National Assembly clinic, the official passed away.
The spokesman of the House, Akin Rotimi, announced the passing of the custom officer, saying, “It is with deep sadness and regret that we confirm the passing of an esteemed official of the Nigeria Customs Service who was at the National Assembly for an engagement with a House Committee.
“During the engagement, which occurred around 1.00 pm on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, the official developed sudden health complications. Despite the immediate and diligent efforts of first responders and medical personnel at the National Assembly Clinic, he unfortunately passed away.”
Rotimi added that the deceased’s name would be temporarily withheld out of respect for his family, as the House of Representatives offered its heartfelt condolences to the official’s loved ones during “this difficult time”.
