Nigerian Legal Committee Shortlists 98 Lawyers For SAN, Invites Public To Lay Complaints

Baba Dala Fika, Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan and 96 others were shortlisted among the senior lawyers who made the list to be considered for the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

The Legal Practitioners Privilege Committee (LPPC) has nominated the All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Baba Dala Fika, Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan, Okechukwu Kingsley Ajunwa and Paul Daudu among 98 lawyers for the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

Baba Dala Fika, Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan and 96 others were shortlisted among the senior lawyers who made the list to be considered for the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

This was contained in a statement signed by the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court and Secretary of the LPPC, Hajo Sarki Bello, dated July 1, 2024, inviting the general public to make comments on the integrity, competence, and reputation of the lawyers and not an indication of their success in the process.

The document stated that every complaint(s) made must be accompanied with a verifying affidavit deposed to by the author before a Superior Court of Record in Nigeria or before a Notary public which must be in twenty copies.

Also on the 98-man shortlist include; include children of prominent Nigerian lawyers, Akinyemi Oluwole Olujimi, Paul Babatunde Daudu and Mofesomo Taye-Oyetibo; the Legal Adviser of the All Progressives Congress (APC), former SPIDEL chairman, Monday Onyekachi Ubani, and Roy Ogbonnaya Umahi Nwaeze.

According to the statement, a total of 87 lawyers were shortlisted for the advocate category and 11 in the academic category.

The statement reads in part; “Every complaint(s) must be accompanied with a verifying affidavit deposed to by the author before a Superior Court of Record in Nigeria or before a Notary Public and be in twenty (20) copies.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the publication of the names of the shortlisted applicants is not an indication of their success in the process.”
