Pathologist Said Autopsy Failed To Ascertain Cause Of Mohbad’s Death, Says Late Singer’s Family Lawyer, Shittu

Shittu told SaharaReporters that the pathologist from the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), told the Lagos Coroner Magistrate Adedayo Shotobi, that the results of an autopsy conducted on Mohbad’s body failed to ascertain the actual cause of his death.

Wahab Shittu (SAN), the lawyer representing the family of the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has said that a pathologist, Prof. Sunday Osiyemi, said that the actual cause of the late singer’s death cannot be ascertained.

According to Shittu, Osiyemi said that the conclusion of the autopsy can be linked to several reasons, including that it took about 21 days before the autopsy was conducted, noting that by then, the deceased’s body had started decomposing.

Shittu said, “According to him (pathologist), the cause of death cannot be determined and he gave a lot of reasons. He said that by the time they conducted the test, the body had decomposed and that it is not possible for them to determine the cause of death.

“In summary, he is saying that the cause of death cannot be ascertained. When you say the cause of death cannot be ascertained, it means it is suspicious, it is not clear, no particular reason.

“But he also went further to say that it may be attributed to reaction to certain drugs administered to him before he died. Again, he said that he does not know whether it was those drugs that actually led to his death.”

“This is an inquiry into the cause and manner of his death,” Shittu added.

The lawyer also told SaharaReporters that other facts were revealed from the testimony of one of the witnesses concerning the disagreement between Mohbad and his wife, and also the disagreement between Mohbad and Sam Larry and others.

However, when asked for a detailed explanation of what the witness revealed to the court, Shittu told SaharaReporters that he could not divulge such details, saying he should be kept out of that.

Asked for further details of what the pathologist told the court, Shittu said he would make the autopsy documents available when it was released to him as he did not want to quote the pathologist out of context.

He said, “What is important is that this pathologist has given his evidence and we have taken a date to cross-examine him and ask him questions on the report. Until those questions are asked, we cannot say this is the outcome.”

He appealed to the public not to quickly react to the testimony of the pathologist “because the man who gave evidence as a pathologist is an expert”.

He said, “Don’t react until we have seen the full report. As I speak to you, I have not seen the full report, and I don’t want to quote the pathologist out of context. The court has advised that we apply for the full report.”
