Lagos Police Command Spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin announced the arrest of the owner of the dogs on Tuesday night.
The Nigeria Police Force has arrested the owner of dogs that killed a security man guarding Pinnock Estate in Lagos State.
SaharaReporters learnt that the owner allegedly failed to properly lock the dogs’ cages on Monday night, causing them to escape and assault the security guard.
The dogs overcame the guard and eventually killed him.
In a video posted on X, the dogs were seen eating the remains of the security guard after he was killed.
A user, Basito on Tuesday wrote: “Pinnock Estate last night: A resident didn’t properly lock in his dogs, dogs escaped and mauled an Estate Security man to death.”
Reacting, the Lagos Police Command Spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin announced the arrest of the owner of the dogs on Tuesday night.
He said: “Dog owner has been arrested and is in our custody.”
Some netizens urged the police to investigate to ascertain if the dogs were truly responsible for the death of the security man.
“I’m not sure those dogs killed that man. If dogs kills person, dem go dismember all him body parts. This look like a hit and run incident,” a user, Chukwuebuka told the police.
Another user, Debunker wrote: “Please also play the cctv footage if any to be sure that man was bitten by a dog truly. Those dogs in that video were sniffing in curiosity rather than a post traumatic sniff.
“No external tissue damage seen in that video too. Was the dog arrested too for further investigation?
“We cannot say. We really cannot say.
Were you there? Dogs have been known to go for the neck and kill with one bite too. It is not always that it is a “tearing and scattering attack”. And you guys are concluding all this from this one video?
Na so una love dog pass person reach?,” Echo-Oscar-Oscar wrote.
“The dogs should all be killed. Any animal that has killed a human should never be spared because they will keep doing it since they have started it. The owner must go to jail for a long time and not bribe his way out,” Oyin wrote.Â
Responding, the police assured that they would carry out proper investigation on the matter.
