Sanusi Reinstalled As Emir Of Kano Four Years After Dethronement

This was announced by the Senior Special Assistant on Digital Media to the state governor, Kwankwason Tuwita on X. He also shared a video of the coronation ceremony.

Governor Abba Kabir on Friday reinstalled Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano four years after he was deposed by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.

This was announced by the Senior Special Assistant on Digital Media to the state governor, Kwankwason Tuwita on X. He also shared a video of the coronation ceremony.

The governor’s aide earlier wrote: “All is set for the presentation of appointment letter to His Highness the Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II CO.”

It was learned that Sanusi arrived in Kano late Thursday without much ceremony.

He is expected to lead the Jumu’at (Friday) prayers at the Kano Central Mosque located at the palace in Kofar Kudu.

SaharaReporters had reported how Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on Thursday officially approved the reappointment of the former Central Bank Governor as the Emir of Kano after he assented to a newly passed bill that abrogated four emirates created in addition to the Emir of Kano.

The emirates were created under a controversial law in 2019 by the administration of former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.

“I have approved the reappointment of Khalipha Muhammadu Sanusi II as the emir of Kano,” the Governor was quoted by his aide.

The governor also issued a 48-hour notice to all the deposed Emirs to vacate their palaces.

However, a Federal High Court sitting in Kano State has barred the Kano State Government from enforcing the Kano State Emirate Council Repeal Law.

Justice Mohammed Liman granted the order in an Exparte application in Suit No FHC/KN/CS/182/2024 brought by Alhaji Aminu Babba Dan Agundi, the Sarkin Dawaki Babba of the Kano Emirate as plaintiff against the Kano State Government; Kano State House of Assembly; Speaker, Kano State House of Assembly; Attorney General of Kano State; Commissioner of Police, Kano State; Inspector General of Police; Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Department of State Services (DSS) as the 1st – 8th defendants.
