SURVEYORS BACK LASG ON DEMOLITION OF DEFECTIVE STRUCTURES
Lagos State branch of The Nigerian Institution of Surveyors has expressed support for the state government’s decision to remove all defective structures in the state.
The institute said on Tuesday that it had become necessary to remove such defective structures as a preventive measure against building collapse.
The Chairman, NIS Lagos branch, Mr Adesina Adeleke, however, stated that the government should ensure safety and provide temporary alternatives for the displaced occupants.
Adeleke said, “Inasmuch as we support the decision of the state government to remove all defective structures hitherto marked for demolition, we strongly advocate a recertification process for buildings in designated parts of the state.
“Over a period of time, we discovered that there is usually no geo-survey information and where such information is available, it does not usually support the type of development earmarked for the land. As-built survey should form part of the requirements for the recertification process.”
