Ajayi faces a one-count charge of culpable homicide punishable by death under Section 221 of the Penal Code of Northern Nigeria.
Timileyin Ajayi, the alleged killer of 24-year-old National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member Salome Adaidu, has been arraigned before Justice Simon Aboki at the High Court of Justice, Lafia, Nasarawa State.
Ajayi faces a one-count charge of culpable homicide punishable by death under Section 221 of the Penal Code of Northern Nigeria.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge.
SaharaReporters earlier reported that the 32-year-old suspect had earlier been remanded at the Nasarawa State Police Command’s Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia following his arrest.
The arrest stemmed from allegations that Ajayi murdered Salome, who worked at Nicon Insurance in Abuja.
The gruesome incident occurred in the Papalana area of New Karshi, Karu Local Government Area, Nasarawa State.
Salome, a gospel singer, was said to have visited Ajayi at his residence when the tragic event unfolded.
SaharaReporters also had earlier detailed that Ajayi was apprehended in Orozo, Abuja, during a church service. A sack containing the severed head of his girlfriend was discovered after a congregant felt compelled to inspect the bag.
“We were shocked to find the fresh head of a woman,” said Umaru Caleb, a church member who witnessed the arrest.
Exhibits recovered by the police included a knife and machetes believed to have been used in the crime. Ajayi remains in custody as the case proceeds.
