It was learnt that 15 other passengers were rescued unharmed.

Two people have lost their lives in a boat accident at Powerline, around Ikoyi Link Bridge in the Ikoyi area of Lagos State.

This is contained in a statement signed by Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary, LASEMA on Thursday, noting that the driver of the boat rammed into a high-tension pole flooded by water which led to the accident.

A male and a female lost their lives in the accident.

Olufemi explained that the body of an adult female was retrieved and confirmed dead by the LRU (LASEMA Response Unit) paramedics while the search for the body of the adult male was ongoing.

He said, “The Agency responded to distress calls and upon arrival at the incident scene, discovered that a boat conveying (17) seventeen passengers from sandfil heading to Ikorodu had capsized at the aforementioned location.

“Further investigation gathered from the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) officials revealed that the driver of the boat rammed into a high-tension pole flooded by water which led to the unfinished incident.

“Unfortunately, two adults lost their lives (a male and a female) and other (15) passengers were unharmed.

“The body of an adult female was retrieved from the water and subsequently transported from the incident scene to LASWA head office at Falomo before being confirmed dead by the LRU paramedics. 

“The adult female remains have been bagged and await the arrival of the SEHMU officials.

“The search for the body of the adult male is ongoing.

“The Agency responders alongside LRU Paramedics, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos State Waterways Authority and Nigeria Police Force were joint responders at the incident scene.”
