WARNING : NLC TASKS FAYEMI ON PROMISES TO EKITI WORKERS
Ekiti State governor-elect, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has been tasked not to fail on his campaign promises of prompt payment of workers’ backlog of salaries by the National President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Ayuba Wabba yesterday.
According to Wabba, one of the major factors that worked against the outgoing government in the state during the July 14th governorship election was its failure to offset the more than six -month salary arrears and pensions owed workers.
Speaking yesterday in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, the NLC president noted the Labour force as the agency that creates wealth and reiterated that workers everywhere would always tilt towards the direction of any government who took their welfare as priority.
“I want to congratulate the incoming governor. INEC played a very important role, I think that will help our politics in the future. I can see that one issue that played out is that the workers and pensioners in the state have not been paid salaries for the past six to eight months.
“What happened in Ekiti is that workers will no longer be maltreated. Fayemi should address the workers’ plight by fulfilling his promises and off-setting the salary arrears.”
The NLC President, also called on governments at all levels to ensure solid partnership with workers towards ensuring rapid development of the nation’s economy.
